97: Ice Capades Commercial
I saw this old commercial the other day (watch it)…
…and 2 things hit me.
The first thing was a hand. Megan slapped me because I had immediately fallen into a deep trance and was buying Ice Capades tickets by the bucketful, killing anyone who stood in my way. That snapped me out of it.
The second thing that hit me, though, was just how effective a commercial that is. I couldn’t stop thinking about Ice Capades for hours. Or at least I couldn’t stop thinking about the words “Ice Capades” repeated over and over in an ever-increasingly-creepier whisper, and that’s pretty much the same thing from a marketing perspective.
I wondered why nobody advertises products this way anymore, and I planned to fix it. So I made this:
…and this:
Do you want to buy cereal or scissors now?
Yes, you do.
i really want some scissor cereal now…
This is awesome advertising. What else can you sell me?
Woah, this makes me want to whisper everything in repeat for 47 seconds… Seconds…. Seconds… Seconds
creepy but effective
I don’t know if I want to buy cereal, but I DO want to convince all my male friends to grow a moustache just like yours. Heck, my girl friends can grow one, too, if they’re game. 😀
must buy ice capades tickets … must eat cereal … must cut snowflakes with scissors … must buy ice capades tickets … must eat cereal … must cut snowflakes with scissors … must buy ice capades tickets … must eat cereal … must cut snowflakes with scissors …
Now that’s just stupid… LMAO
I will have nightmares of cereal-cutting scissors, but at least I won’t think about Ice Capades anymore.
Oh–wait a minute. I just did. And I am now.
Aw, the first commercial was taken down.
That’s some pretty trippy stuff there, though. What program did you use? Nice moustache, by the way – you should’ve shown yourself cutting a piece of paper menacingly with that moustache, and then scissors would be cemented in my brain, forever.
Not that, uh, actual scissors would be cemented in my brain. That’s not… nice.
I think I was at work when this post came up on my Reader, thus me never watching these til now. SO GOOD.
Yeah, but the original is gone, now. Nothing to compare to. Thanks.
