112: Pepsi Pickle
Every time I go to the gas station, I’m confronted with this sight.
A big, green Pepsi bottle. All of the red pigment from the print has been burned out by the sun, leaving this sickly sad beverage, leering at me from behind the pumps.
I don’t think the sign is doing its job very well, because it really doesn’t make me want a Pepsi.
It does, however, make me want a pickle.
So, I decided to make it a pickle friend, and hang it up right next to it.
Here’s some process photos:
When I was finished, I hit the store, picked up some zip ties, and walked down to the gas station. But, when I got there, I was surprised.
Lately, I’ve been taking the bus to work and not really needing a lot of gas. I guess I hadn’t been to the gas station for a little while since I snapped the first photos.
Meanwhile, something awful had happened.
They took down the Pepsi sign.
I was completely flabbergasted. It had been there forever, and it’s always looked terrible. It didn’t even occur to me that they would take it down. Now my sign makes no sense whatsoever.
I strapped my nonsense sign to some randomly chosen pole along the walk home. I can only hope it makes a passerby fairly uncomfortable due to complete lack of context.
See ya next week.
Oh my gosh I love the effort you went to do this! I am bummed the Green Pepsi Pickle sign was gone. I hope you find another one! Though I have to say, I admire you hanging it up randomly.
What a pity! Such a great idea (as usual).
People look at you weird? I can’t imagine why.
And besides, if your sign makes even one person go home and eat a pickle, your job is done. And WE appreciate it. 😉 It looks awesome.
This was a great project and turned out really well I think. I wonder if you had put the pickle near the Newport sign if other frequent customers might have remembered the old sign and got the connection. Of course, on the other hand, this could be also be the start of a movement to put Pepsi Pickle signs across the city… the nation… the world…
Sell it to a pickle store.
